I’ve been punched in the face by Google!

Vintage Purse Journal VWBug v2

It has been such a crazy time in my world. I’m working on final editing on a new non-fiction book with a friend under my pen name (2nd book in the series). That’s been taking up a bit of my time and has hindered me from finishing my first series of “My Purse Journals.”  But working on weekends I finally got it all set!  Just as I was about to hit the publish button GOOGLE HIT ME IN THE FACE!!!

Let me tell you a little bit of backstory. About 6 months ago I found an amazing creator, author and program designer; Tamara Monosoff (tamaramonosoff.com) who taught me how to make my books interactive!  I loved the idea so much that I went all out to find ways to make all my books – both Callaghan and my pen name books interactive in creative ways. (I also did a client’s books too!!)

Using QR codes is a great way to make your books interactive. But to get the maximum benefit for scanning your QR (Quick Response) codes—you want to know the number of people who have taken the time to get involved in the interactive components, you want to be able to track them. That’s where my problem with Google came. I got a short link from Google so I can get the tracking option. Well, it was a choice that ended up biting me in the butt.  Google decided to not keep offering these shortcodes/tracking. So everything I have done in my books will not work as of 2019!!!

Which means that I have to change all my covers for my books. I had a QR code to my websites. Plus in all my books I give a ‘welcome audio’ and same for the links to my lead magnets (free stuff I offer in each book) UGH.

So that’s why ‘My Purse Journals’ are not available yet. I have to re-do all the QR codes! Oh Google, you have really fried my butt this week. I think you’re amazing with all the great free programs you offer us, but this one really cut me deep!

Oh, Well, what you going to do? I guess it’s a sign that I need to ebb and flow!
